The sheer size of this home in South Mumbai is intimidating, almost palatial. A combination of two flats, the residence exudes royalty. Designing this spacious flat was a challenge as the entire theme had to be unified. Five bedrooms, a family room, dining and sitting areas, a huge kitchen and two long passages make this flat truly lavish. The living room is marked by two columns and huge sofas around centre tables in various group seating. One of the pillars is treated uniquely in a steel finish, lending almost a contemporary feel to the environment. A few Indian paintings and a jhula contribute towards a traditional touch. A more private seating area is created in an alcove for a closer group that has a backdrop of well-lit shelves above the sofa, adding further glamour. The master bedroom has a colonial feel to it with a work area, a large comfortable chair, a walk-in-wardrobe, dressing and bathroom. The walls have a trellis design and are paneled in wood. A personal touch is added by the two Renaissance-like paintings that were specially commissioned for the dressing area. The family room is a comfortable, cosy den. We used wood at its best here to create and effect of drawn curtains in veneer on either side of the TV.
