Jawahar Kala Kendra announces the third edition of its annual performing arts festival,
NAVRAS . From 17 - 25 March 2018, the festival will present a rich and diverse programme of theatre, classical and contemporary dance, sufi, classical and fusion music.

The festival will open on 17 March with Dhamaal, a celebration of the drumming traditions from India, with a performance curated and directed by the renowned percussionist Aneesh Pradhan and will be followed by a week of outstanding performances including:

● Thari - The Loom by Padma Shri Malavika Sarukkai and Attakkalari’s Bhina Vinyasa, which combines
movement and digital art
● Ismat Apa Ke Naam directed and acted by Naseeruddin Shah with his wife, Ratna Pathak Shah and
daughter Sheeba Shah; Khwab Sa directed by Atul Kumar, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s A
Midsummer Night’s Dream; Shakkar Ke Paanch Daane directed by Manav Kaul and acted by Kumud
Mishra; Mahadev Bhai directed by Ramu Ramananthan and acted by Jaimini Pathak; Elephant in the
Room directed and acted by Yuki Elias; and Ek Madhav Baug directed by Vivek Kenkre and acted by
Mona Ambegaonkar.
● Partition: The Stories of Separation by Sonam Kalra; and morning raagas by Jayteerth Mevundi and
Niladri Kumar. The closing of the festival will premiere the Rajasthan Roots Caravan, with more than 30 Rajasthani musicians on stage, directed by Aditya Bhasin.

Premiere JKK is thrilled to announce the premiere of A Bride in the Hand, directed by Rajasthan’s rising star Ajeet Singh Palawat. Ajeet’s proposal was selected by JKK after an open call for proposals in 2017 and is destined to be a highlight of Navras.

Experimental and Experiential Programmes In an attempt to introduce audiences to innovative musical productions, several experiential productions have been invited to Navras. Dhamaal celebrates the percussion traditions of India; Thari The Loom is inspired by the
sari; Partition: Stories of Separation is an experiential performance using music, theatre, film, design and art to retell the stories of separation; and Rajasthan Roots Caravan, which features more than 30 artists on stage exploring the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan's folklore, is an audio visual extravaganza presenting a contemporary and explosive package of song, dance and instruments.

Carpet Export Promotion Council organized the 35th India Carpet Expo in NSIC Exhibition Ground, Okhla, New Delhi  from 8-11 March, 2018, with an aim to promote the Cultural Heritage and showcase the weaving skills of Indian hand-knotted carpet artisans amongst the overseas hand-knotted carpet buyers.India Carpet Expo was inaugurated on 8th March, 2018 by Hon’ble Minister of State for Textiles Shri Ajay Tamta in NSCI Exhibition Ground, Okhla, New Delhi in the gracious presence of Shri Shantmanu, IAS, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts).

The Chairman of CEPC Mr. Mahavir Pratap Sharma, said  that on the spot business of Rs. 306.00 Crores were booked and over 2408 enquiries were received which will further generate business of approx.  Rs. 100.00 Crore in the 4 days Expo which shall be executed in the coming months. This expo will lead to opening up of new market opportunity for the industry and shall help small and Medium Indian carpet exporters in promoting their products to overseas countries.

Birla White aligns with PM’s ‘Design in India’ initiative

Birla White YuvaRatna’, a design challenge contest for architectural fraternity, motivates young aspiring students to design Andhra Pradesh’s new capital city Amaravathi. Inspired by Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Design in India’ vision for building a beautiful India, budding young creative minds will design architecture to transform Amaravathi into a first of its kind smart city.  This contest has drawn enormous participation from across India and Nepal, attracting more than 2000 drawing entries from 100 institutes.

The event, to be held on March 16 in Mumbai, will be inaugurated by Mrs. Rajashree Birla, Director board member at Aditya Birla Group companies, in the presence of eminent architects and construction professionals from across India.  The jury for this year’s contest is an elite panel which includes Ar. Rajeev Sathe, Ar. Ketan Vaidya, Ar. Nilabh Nagar, Ar. Ramaswamy Natesaiyer, Ar. Ravi Ramakrishnarao and Ar. Nishant Gupta.

The themes for this year’s competition are ‘Amaravati Convention Centre’ and ‘Portal to Capital City, Amravati’. Participants are expected to showcase their intellectual understanding of the given theme and present it uniquely. Over the years, ‘Birla White YuvaRatna’ has grown in its participation and popularity amongst the architectural fraternity. This has helped Birla White reach out to architectural student across institutes globally.

“Government of India’s ‘Design in India’ initiative will play a vital role in creating jobs for the architectural fraternity. Similarly, ‘Portal to Capital City, Amravati’ theme includes, designing Boat Jetty cum Amenity Center at Krishna River, ticket counters and bridges to cross numerous water bodies on the river. The portal forms the entrance to the new smart capital city.

This year “PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet” is the chosen hue that communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us towards the future. First Lady of France Visits Lodhi Art District in Delhi

The Lodhi Colony area of Delhi which was transformed into India’s very first open public art district as part of the St+art Festival in 2015. The two month long festival had brought together over 25 street artists from India and across the world to brighten the city with art interventions like murals, installations and more. The popular art district is visited by many dignitaries throughout the year. One such luminary to grace the Lodhi Art District yesterday was The First Lady of France, Mrs Brigitte Macron.

St+art Sr. Architect, Mr. Pierre Guyot, who conducted the special tour for the First Lady walked for an hour and a half across the Art District, says she was particularly interested by some very powerful work, as the birds by Daleast or original aboriginal by Reko Rennie. Mrs Macron was also very impressed in the diversity of techniques used by artists that shows that street art is a very lively artistic trend that goes beyond graffiti.  Furthermore, she was particularly impressed by the creation of an open air art museum that offers art to all in the most relatable and engaging manner.

Pointing out also how the spirit of cultural exchange and collaboration that many pieces (for example "We Love Delhi", collaboration between the French duo Lek & Sowat and the Indian artist Hanif Kureshi) brings in Lodhi, is felt in every corner, giving an inspiring vibe of an environment which is both local and global.

The visit also highlights the successful and prolific collaboration between St+art India Foundation and the French institutions in India (Embassy of France, Institute Francaise, Alliance Francaise), which recently culminated in 4 projects across Mumbai, Hyderabad, Calcutta and Chandigarh on the occasion of the Bonjour India project. A project started in 2015 by St+art India Foundation and made possible thanks to the collaborative efforts and unconditioned support of Asian Paints, the Minister of Urban Development, CPWD, DUAC and more than 20 Embassies and Institutes of Culture.
