Us Investment Company Buys 80% Stake In Philips’ Lumileds

Dec 13, 2016

Royal Philips NV, better known as Philips, has agreed to sell an 80.1% stake of its lighting brand ‘Lumileds’ to a US-based investment company, Apollo Global Management LLC, while retaining the rest. Philips, headquartered in Amsterdam, claims to receive $1.5 billion in the future, from the deal valued at a $2 billion once completed.

Reportedly, the deal was sealed after a year of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) rejected a $2.8 billion deal from Chinese investment firm, Go Scale Capital to buy Lumileds, due to US national security concerns as Apollo was a safer bet even though the offer was lower.

As stated on its website, Lumileds is the largest supplier of lamps to the auto industry, serving one out of every three cars in the world since 2014.

Cofounders Of Architezer Complete New Jersey’s Apartment Tower With Gridded White Exteriors

Dec 12, 2016

Architects Hollwich Kushner and Handel Architects, co-founders of architecture website Architizer, have completed a 53-storey apartment tower in New Jersey’s Journal Square, quite similar to the 432 Park Avenue skyscraper in Manhattan.

Clad in aluminium panels, the high-rise building has a rectangular form and gridded windows, and consists of a slender shaft rising from a splayed base. Containing 538 rental apartments, it includes amenities such as a yoga studio, an outdoor pool and a "sky lounge" on the 53rd floor.

The team has skillfully taken care of both the regional and neighbourhood aspects while constructing the tower by setting the building 85 ft above sea level, and being distinctly visible to every New Yorker, and on the other hand, creating smaller volumes in the lower portion of the skyscraper to blend with Jersey’s surrounding structures respectively.

According to Hollwich, this “powerful landmark” in front of the Journal Square PATH station epitomizes Jersey City being an “extension of Manhattan.

The open-art gallery arranged in these events provides a platform for budding students from JJ School of Arts, Rachana Sansad and the LS Raheja School of Arts, and also municipal school students and specially-abled children.

The most recent event was held at the Veer Ratna Baji Prabhu Udyan in Dadar West, whereas the schedule includes upcoming events at the Priyadarshini Park in Napean Sea Road on 17th and 18th December, 2016.

Cleveland, Ohio-based global leader GE Lighting is launching a suite of Internet-connected products, the first of which is the new “C by GE” – a smart, LED lamp with embedded Amazon Alexa Voice Service (AVS).

The smart features of this lamp prove Jeff Patron’s (General Manager, Connected Home Products, GE Lighting) statement of this product being “much more than connecting lighting to voice integration” right! In addition to controlling the LED lamp, the LED lamp by itself has all of Alexa’s capabilities. With voice commands, you can listen to the latest headlines, order your dinner, preheat your oven, or control other GE and non-GE products with a variety of other voice commands.

According to GE, this LED table lamp with a speaker and microphones is the first use of AVS embedded within a lighting product. The C by GE product brings the capabilities of the traditional Amazon Echo device without requiring an Echo unit, hub or even a smartphone!

Pantone Releases The Colour Of The Year For 2017!

Dec 09, 2016

Bidding adieu to Rose Quartz and Serenity, the reigning colours of 2016, it is now time to welcome “Greenery” into our home interiors! Pantone has declared this hue as the Colour of the Year for 2017: "a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore, and renew."

The upcoming year’s colour in trend is chosen as a response to our excessively busy urban lifestyle, highlighting high stress levels, overuse of technology and imbalance in global events. Rightly pointed out by Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, this exhaustive regime needs to be addressed with our reconnection with nature and “regenerate, refresh, revitalize and renew”. Since Greenery has a direct correlation with spring, it has a preexistent reaffirming feel to it.

On a more informative level, the new Color of the Year is chosen based on Pantone's own cultural litmus test, in addition to a collective study of colors noticed and trending across various fields and industries.

Dyson Takes Over Dyson!

Dec 07, 2016

Recently announced by the company, Dyson Ltd. is switching its ownership from James Dyson to his son, Jake Dyson. Surprisingly, this multibillion-dollar company is owned by the founder wholly and solely, and not by shareholders.

While Mr. James’ inventiveness was towards high-powered electric motors and vacuums, his son had a higher impact in the lighting industry with his lighting design studio for the last decade. Jake joined the Dyson board in 2014 before Dyson bought his company in 2015. Now, the larger establishment sells Jake Dyson’s lighting line as its own.

The reason behind this internal takeover is Senior Dyson retiring at the age of 70, states Jake, thus also preserving the “family business” instead of the “worldwide success” being sold to any other entity. The main reason behind this being a further success is his interest in “designing products” and enjoying what he does!
