Viega Collaborates With Wash United & Unicef To Achieve Team Swachh Bharat’s Mission

Through the Swachh Bharat Mission’ (SBM) initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, one of his aims was to provide every Indian the access to toilets by Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birthday on 2nd  October 2019.

‘Team Swachh Bharat’ is an initiative, co-developed by WASH United and UNICEF, to implement exactly this goal.  Viega is the first company to join the distribution of Team Swachh Bharat’s Action Kits to 3,500 schools, thereby reaching up to 7,00,000 children across India. This kit combines play-based learning with rule-based habit formation and engages children through daily and weekly activities throughout the academic year, thus improving “the standards of hygiene in the country in a sustainable manner”, comments Anna Viegener, Member of the Management Board and Shareholder of Viega.

Lee Mindel's Design Collection Being Auctioned At Philips!

Architect & Designer and Interior Design Hall of Fame member, Lee Mindel will auction an extensive collection of his art and design objects in a sale at Philips, namely “Light & Aerie: The Collection of Lee F. Mindel, FAIA” as he is relocating from his New York City penthouse to a new tower by Herzog & de Meuron in TriBeCa.

Over a span of 30 years, Mindel has accumulated art, which includes works by celebrated design talents Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Ettore Sottsass, and others. "[Building the collection] was discovering my own deconstructed architectural DNA—finding the opportunity to surround oneself with the great minds of design and architecture as articulated in their works," Mindel says.

The sale of his art, a.k.a over 150 showpieces, provides Mindel with an opportunity to start afresh in his new home. "We are always in search of a new case-study type in architecture that seamlessly integrates architecture, interior, and context," he says.

Ikea Introduces 3d Knit Furniture Into Its Ps Collection

The Swedish furniture brand, IKEA introduces its 3D knit PS 2017 armchair, which has a mesh back and sides stretched across a powder-coated steel frame. It is designed to be a light weighted, semi-transparent armchair that also lends a sense of "airy openness and space", comments Sarah Fager, In-house Designer at IKEA.

Based on a digital design, 3D-knitting uses computer-controlled manufacturing machines that knit fibers into intricate shapes. The technique was invented for the garment industry, but is gradually finding its place in the world of design and architecture.

Available in various colours, this £125 3D-knitted chair is part of the company's PS (post scriptum) collection, which is renewed once in three years with a different focus, trends and collaborations.

Morphogenesis Gets Hired To Design The Largest Office Center In The World

Delhi-based architecture firm, Morphogenesis has won the architectural competition to design the world’s largest center of 65,00,000 sq. ft. for diamond trade. The project restarted after a 1.5-year delay, with the Gujarat Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani laying the foundation stone on 23rd October 2016.

Equipped with up-to-the-minute amenities such as safe deposit vaults, Customs clearance house, exhibition, training and entertainment centers, World Standard Convention Center, restaurants and a club, this diamond estate will accommodate over 4,000 offices and 1.5 lakh people.

According to the firm, the interior spaces are all planned ‘inside-out’, enhancing the idea of modernism through optimum use of space and resources, intelligent structural design and efficient distribution of cost. 

Us Investment Company Buys 80% Stake In Philips’ Lumileds

Royal Philips NV, better known as Philips, has agreed to sell an 80.1% stake of its lighting brand ‘Lumileds’ to a US-based investment company, Apollo Global Management LLC, while retaining the rest. Philips, headquartered in Amsterdam, claims to receive $1.5 billion in the future, from the deal valued at a $2 billion once completed.

Reportedly, the deal was sealed after a year of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) rejected a $2.8 billion deal from Chinese investment firm, Go Scale Capital to buy Lumileds, due to US national security concerns as Apollo was a safer bet even though the offer was lower.

As stated on its website, Lumileds is the largest supplier of lamps to the auto industry, serving one out of every three cars in the world since 2014. 

Tom Dixon Lights Up The Welcome Lane Of The Television Centre

Tom Dixon, Creative Director of the renowned lighting brand, Tom Dixon crafts a spectacular and festive suspended light installation in the welcome lane of Television Centre in London’s borough, White City. The inspired work in the newly landscaped area off Wood Lane was opened to the public on Thursday, 1st December 2016.

The designer’s light installation is sponsored by White Noise, a live research project about urban change based in White City and Stanhope.

With a total of 160 geodesic brass pendant lights that dramatically illuminate the bare-branched trees, have been designed using intricately engraved and patterned razor thin brass sheets. Part of his Etch family of designs, these structures cast beautiful shadows when switched on together.

Interested art aficionados may find more of his outstanding work in museums such as the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Museum of Modern Art.
