Architect & Designer and Interior Design Hall of Fame member, Lee Mindel will auction an extensive collection of his art and design objects in a sale at Philips, namely “Light & Aerie: The Collection of Lee F. Mindel, FAIA” as he is relocating from his New York City penthouse to a new tower by Herzog & de Meuron in TriBeCa.
Over a span of 30 years, Mindel has accumulated art, which includes works by celebrated design talents Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Ettore Sottsass, and others. "[Building the collection] was discovering my own deconstructed architectural DNA—finding the opportunity to surround oneself with the great minds of design and architecture as articulated in their works," Mindel says.
The sale of his art, a.k.a over 150 showpieces, provides Mindel with an opportunity to start afresh in his new home. "We are always in search of a new case-study type in architecture that seamlessly integrates architecture, interior, and context," he says.
