The civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), in conjunction with the Indian Heritage Society (IHS) has pioneered an initiative named “Art in the Park” across Mumbai, to bring traditional art and culture to the gardens in your vicinity. The service will have art and craft workshops (quilling, diya making, hand-puppet making, etc.), open-art gallery, music and dance performances showcasing the traditional, folk and classical art forms of the country.
Anita Garware, chairperson of the IHS, comments on the lack of effective and creative use of open spaces in the city and appreciates BMC’s help with providing public gardens for conducting events with “local participation and sponsorship”.
The open-art gallery arranged in these events provides a platform for budding students from JJ School of Arts, Rachana Sansad and the LS Raheja School of Arts, and also municipal school students and specially-abled children.
The most recent event was held at the Veer Ratna Baji Prabhu Udyan in Dadar West, whereas the schedule includes upcoming events at the Priyadarshini Park in Napean Sea Road on 17th and 18th December, 2016.
