Evidence Of Tengalana’s Kakatiya Dynasty’s Architectural Excellence Uncovered!

Jan 19, 2017

Warangal and Hanamkonda in Telangana had a circular city plan, with a Shiva temple in the center, making them crucial archaeological evidences of the architectural expertise of the Kakatiya kings, reported Dr. George Michell, founder member of the Deccan Heritage Foundation, on Monday.

Michell being an expert in South Asian architecture, pointed out how the Kakatiyas had made their military plan as a symbolic base with swastika, used the city as a cosmogram (a flat geometric figure depicting cosmology, which is the science of the origin and development of the universe) and also uniquely constructed the city in three concentric circles.

He called for more research in the area and the need for aerial mapping and architectural documentation of the historic sites in Telangana.

‘Smart’ Kettle Launched For The Perfect Coffee In San Francisco

Jan 17, 2017

San Francisco-based startup, Fellow has designed a ‘smart’ kettle that allows users to precisely and remotely control its temperature for optimum coffee brewing.

The Stagg EKG kettle designed in collaboration with branding agency Branch, is intended as a more aesthetically appealing and minimal alternative to existing electric kettles.

It connects to an app named Brewbar, allowing users to remotely control the temperature, and to switch the device on and off.

The app also stores brewing times and temperatures, so users can save recipes for future reference. The kettle's minimal design features a slender spout and handle.  A weight in the handle moves the centre of mass closer to the user's hand for a controlled pour, while the slender spout allows for a more precise stream of water.

Its on-off button pops out to double as a dial that controls the water temperature, which is displayed on an LCD screen on the kettle's base. The Stagg EKG can be set to maintain a specific temperature for up to 30 minutes, meaning users to set it to be ready for when they arrive home.

French Houses In The Form Of White Caged Boxes

Jan 17, 2017

Bordeaux-based More Architecture and Poggi Architecture, teamed up to design the 1,886-square-metre scheme named White Clouds, which provides 30 residential apartments for a French town, Saintes.

Working together as Poggi + More, the architects devised a scheme aiming to maximise outdoor space through a series of gridded metal balconies.

"The building is positioned in such a way as to respect the site's quality, rather than merely colonise the given space," said the architects. "The little boxes project outwards, embracing the most interesting vistas."

Caged balconies are "grafted" onto all sides of the block, to make sure there is no primary facade. Their size and placement matches with the need of each individual apartment, which is contained within three white, corrugated metal blocks.

"Exit conventional balconies, terraces and loggias with their separating walls and shields of varying transparency, used to hide unsightly objects or provide a modicum of intimacy," said the architects.

The Most Inventive Calendar The World Has Ever Seen!

Jan 16, 2017

The ‘DodeCal’ – a term derived from ‘dodecahedron’ and ‘calendar’ – is an invention of London-based designer Ric Bell. The idea for a twelve-sided three-dimensional calendar came to Bell in 2012, when he was studying these geometrical shapes. He absentmindedly scribbled a note to himself that simply read, “Put a calendar on a 12-sided polyhedra”. After years of experimentation, this has resulted in this tactile, functional and contemporary design object, which is made from sycamore wood, and combines digital technology with traditional craftsmanship. The ‘DodeCal’ priced at £79 per piece, produced at the Lake District, can be ordered online at www.dodecal.com.

Taiwanese Temple Installs Ecofriendly GlacialLight LED Lighting

Jan 12, 2017

I-Kuan Tao (also known as Yiguandao in traditional Chinese), is one of the several common religions in Taiwan, which originated from China and expanded globally.

This religion that worships prehistoric energy wants to consume less electricity, and even features temples that are devoted to green energy. Therefore, installing LED lighting perfectly fits with the I-Kuan Tao ideas about sustainability.

On November 26, 2016, the largest green energy temple located in Changhua City, Taiwan opened. The whole temple lighting scheme mainly uses GlacialLight AR111, down lights, and track lights together with a lighting control dimmer (electronic potentiometer) and GlacialPower dimmable drivers.

The various LED lighting fixtures together with lighting control system, distribute the light in a way that makes the statues look beautiful, solemn, and lifelike. The warm color temperature fixtures help make the whole palace bright and warm. The energy saving and carbon reduction of using LED lighting fixtures reduces costs and sets a standard for temple lighting design.
