Lakeside Paradise

The binding narrative in the hotel, apart from its rustic interiors, is a view of the serene Lake Como. Patricia Urquiola, a seasoned and renowned architect based out of Milan is the principle designer of the Il Sereno Lago di Como. Situated next to the village of Torno, Il Sereno stretches to about 450 feet along the east shore of the lake. The hotel boasts of 30 oversized suites with furnished terraces offering a breathtaking view of the lake. The hotel also has its own signature restaurant called the Berton Al Lago, which is perched overlooking the waters and offers the best collection of food and exclusive wines. The property features a vertical botanical garden and green sculptures by botanist Patrick Blanc. The luxurious rooms have windows from the floor to the ceiling. The rooms range from 65 sq mt to 200 plus sq mt penthouses.

The spa facilities offered by the hotel are serviced by the Swiss brand, Valmont. It is situated in line with the lake under the original stone arches of the structure. The green view of the lake coupled with the private terraces provide the right amount of exclusivity to one’s stay at the hotel. “Acquiring permissions to build a hotel by the lake wasn’t a simple task,” says Patricia. Every aspect is custom designed by Studio Urquiola. The understated design with classical beams, act as unifying elements throughout. The spa is housed inside the refurbished boathouses of the property. All three treatment rooms face the lake, in line with the rest of the hotel. The treatments offered at the spa use materials like natural minerals and pure glacier water sourced from Switzerland.

The property also boasts of a private beach, a dock and a large sundeck. A couple of unique offerings of the space include the 60 foot long fresh water infinity pool overlooking the lake and custom-made boats by Cantiere Ernesto Riva. The custom handmade boats are sourced from the small town of Lagilo, that practices this craft dating back to 1771. Il Sereno guests may also travel to other destinations on the lake via two boats namely ‘Jetto’ or the grand ‘Vaporina del Lago’, which also feature interiors designed by Patricia Urquiola.

Unlike the vibrant lifestyle of the Italian culture and its city life, this hotel offers a celebration of a beautiful and calm life that reflects the attitude of the smaller towns and villages of the country.
